Sustainable Food Summit

The Sustainable Food Summit will be taking place on the 7 - 8 June 2018, and will explore new horizons for eco-labels and sustainability in the food industry by discussing key industry issues.

The event will be addressing the following questions:

  • With growing proliferation in labels, what are the prospects for a single sustainability standard for food products?
  • What are the practical application of sustainability metrics? What advances are occurring in sustainable ingredients?
  • What developments are happening in formulation, production and marketing of sustainable food and beverages

6th Conference on socially responsible procurement of IT products

21 - 22 June 2018, 14:30 - 15:00
Stuttgart, Germany

This conference, taking place the 21 and 22 June 2018 in Stuttgart (Germany) addresses actors in public procurement, state and local politics, non-governmental organizations, and IT companies and invites them to exchange experiences and dialogue on how public procurement can help improve working conditions in the global IT industry.

Main focus of the conference's topic will be the extraction of raw materials. The event aims to consider the difficulties of procurement managers in assessing the social aspects of supply chains and to report on the development of initiatives such as the US Dodd-Frank Act project and the new EU Regulation on conflict minerals.

The conference languages ​​are German and English. Both languages ​​will be interpreted simultaneously.

From local to EU level: Scaling up Fair Trade in Europe

Back-to-back to the first EU Cities for Fair and Ethical Trade Award Ceremony on 27 June, the Fair Trade Advocacy Office is organizing the EU conference "From local to EU level: Scaling up Fair Trade in Europe" which will take place on 27- 28 June at the European Committee of the Regions in Brussels.

The conference wants to seize the Award Ceremony as an opportunity to facilitate an exchange among EU local authorities on how they are supporting Fair Trade and how the EU could support the upscale of their local Fair Trade projects. In particular, on 28 June, in the morning, participants will be invited to join two of the four conference’s workshops.

The workshops include:

  • Workshop 1b: National and EU awards for local authorities promoting Fair Trade (9:40 - 11:30)
  • Workshop 2a: Fair Textile Public Procurement (11:45-13:00)
  • Workshop 2b: Capacity building and funding opportunities to support the uptake and the upscale of local Fair Trade initiatives (11:45-13:00)

GPP Helpdesk Webinar – Sustainable events

This webinar will take place on the 28 June at 14.30-16.00 (CET). The webinar will feature three presentations from a range of public sector experts working on the organisation of sustainable events (meetings and small sized events). These will address the following:

  • Main issues impacting sustainability in holding an event and practical tips to mitigate these during planning and execution phases. Main issues will focus on venue selection, waste (prevention, reduction and management), catering, mobility and accommodation.
  • Strategies and criteria to use to address the main issues through public tendering or direct contracting during the main organisational stages: planning, organisation, celebration and disassembly and evaluation
  • Presentation of useful tools and practical guidance for event
    organisers.

The webinars form part of the service provided through the European Commission’s Helpdesk on GPP.
