Montreal joins Global Lead City Network

The City of Montreal (Canada) has committed to joining the Global Lead City Network on Sustainable Procurement, a group of 13 cities driving a transition to sustainable consumption and production by implementing sustainable and innovation procurement.

Montreal already has a Community Sustainable Development Plan in place that aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, enhance the quality of runoff water, and recover waste, ultimately making it easier for families to stay in the city. The plan also intends to make the city a leader in the green economy and increase the number of environmental certifications, as well as improving its green infrastructure.

Additionally, the Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) recently released its sustainable procurement tools to the public. The public corporation aims to ensure that 90 percent of its contracts include sustainable development criteria by 2020.
