Procuring together - learn from the Big Buyers Initiative

Public procurement can be a key tool in driving the development of innovative goods and services on the European market. By working together, and strategically aligning their buying power, cities, central purchasing bodies, and other major public procurers can maximise their market power and impact. The Big Buyers Initiative presents a compelling opportunity to engage with other public authorities across Europe and to see how European collaboration can drive the market for sustainable and innovative solutions.

The Big Buyers is a European Commission Initiative for promoting collaboration between big public buyers in implementing strategic public procurement. ICLEI and EUROCITIES are currently running the initiative on behalf of the European Commission, DG Internal Market, Industry Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW).

We are looking for public authorities interested in the work and outcome of the initiative to join the BBI observer group. The members will have access to webinars, data sharing platforms with working material developed by the participating cities and first hand information on the outcome of the three established working groups on (1) circular construction materials, (2) heavy duty electric vehicles for public services and (3) zero emission construction sites.

If you are interested in becoming  a member of the Big Buyers observer group, or want to find out more, please contact Kaitlyn Dietz (kaitlyn.dietz@iclei.org).
