Sustainable procurement of forest products webinar

30 September 2015

The World Resources Institute and WBCSD Forest Solutions will hold a webinar on their sustainable procurement guide for wood and paper-based products, firstly on 30 September and then on 11 November.

Ruth Nogueron, of the World Resources Institute and Uta Jungermann, of the WBCSD, will discuss how to make informed choices on forest products and how to use the guide to develop or improve your sourcing policy for paper, packaging or furniture and other products derived from forests. The guide is designed to help you implement and deliver on critical supply chain commitments to eliminate deforestation and thereby incentivise sustainable forest management.

The webinar is particularly prepared for corporate procurement managers that purchase wood and paper-based product and is intended to give participants useful information to apply in business immediately. Corporate leaders will also join the webinar to share their experiences in using the guide.

PROBIS open market consultation

The PROBIS project aims to leverage public demand to stimulate the construction market to develop or improve new integrated approaches and solutions for energy efficiency and sustainable refurbishment of public buildings.

To support this, ALER Bergamo (Lombardy Region) will organise a market engagement event with market operators on 30 September 2015. Participants at the event will get an understanding of the project and its goals and take part in a dialogue with the market about the performance requirements for refurbishment in a tender which will be launched as part of the project.

The event includes a buffet lunch and a site visit of buildings in the area of Treviglio which are among PROBIS test sites for energy efficiency refurbishment.

CompraVerde - BuyGreen - International Forum on Green Purchasing

CompraVerde - BuyGreen - International Forum on Green Purchasing is the most important event in Italy dedicated to the policies and projects on green and sustainable procurement. The 2015 edition will be held on 7 and 8 October in Rome (Italy)

This year the Forum is dedicated to Italian companies that have distinguished themselves in implementing policies to decrease environmental impact and increase sustainable procurement. The MensaVerde Prize, the Rating and Sustainable Procurement Award and the Buy Green award will all be presented for varying categories.

iNSPiRe Procurer Study Visit

Ludwigsburg, Germany

The iNSPiRe project invites public procurers to visit a sustainably renovated residential building in Ludwigsburg (Germany). This study visit gives procurers the chance to learn about the latest innovations on the market which help to reduce the primary energy consumption of buildings.

The study visit will give procurers a first-hand insight into the process of renovating a publicly-owned residential building with the latest solutions. The City of Ludwigsburg will outline their procurement approach while the technical partners of the iNSPiRe project will explain their solutions and how they can be combined and used in other building types. Finally there will be a possibility to exchange and network with the participants.

Participation in the event is free of charge, but early registration is required to reserve your seat. Please note that you are responsible for your own travel and accommodation arrangements. UNOPS Sustainable Procurement Workshop

19 - 21 October 2015

UNOPS is planning to hold its next three-day workshop on Sustainable Procurement from 19 - 21 October in Copenhagen (Denmark). This workshop has been jointly developed by UNEP, ITC-ILO and UNOPS.

The workshop is designed to help participants develop a thorough understanding of sustainable procurement and provides concrete guidance on tools, techniques and best practices. It is based on a combination of presentations and participatory methods. Participants will have the opportunity to work on a real-life case in which sustainability considerations have been included into a standard procurement process.

European Assistance for Innovation Procurement

27 - 28 October 2015
Paris, France

The first of a series of events organised by European Assistance for Innovation Procurement (eafip), an initiative of the European Commission, will take place in Paris (France) on 27 and 28 October. The free event will raise awareness about major PCP/PPI initiatives across Europe and stimulate networking between stakeholders to discuss new ideas, initiatives and funding opportunities for PCP/PPI.

A full event programme is planned with contributions and presentations from the European Commission, eafip experts, and representatives of cities, regions, and EU Member States. Sessions will focus on the impact of PPI in Europe, how it can be mainstreamed, and implementation of PPI at national and European levels. The second day of the event will discuss Horizon 2020 funding opportunities for innovation procurement.

eafip and the European Commission invite policy makers, procurers, procurement law firms and businesses to attend. Registration is on a first-come first-served basis until 30 September.

Electronic Invoicing Seminar

Agence pour l'informatique financière de l'État (AIFE), an agency of the French government, is holding a seminar on electronic invoicing on 28 October in Paris (France). Following the example of other European countries, the implementation of paperless invoicing will become obligatory from 2017 onwards.

In order to better prepare companies for this change, AIFE will present the proposed solution for this need for electronic invoicing, Chorus Portail 2017. The event will also give participants a first look at pilots for the portal and proposed services designed to help companies become familiar with its use.

As well as this, several round-tables with expert speakers from the French national government, local governments, and business will discuss the opportunities that electronic invoicing presents, as well as its importance for modernisation of procurement in France.

PPI4Waste Procurement Foresight Workshop

The EU-funded PPI4Waste project, which explores mechanisms to overcome barriers to public procurement of innovation in the waste sector, is hold a free workshop in Brussels (Belgium) on 29 October 2015. The event will gather experts in public procurement of innovation (PPI), partners of the PPI4Waste project, public authorities and other relevant actors to discuss the needs and solutions for PPI in the field of waste and material resources.

Topics like the collect and treatment of bio-waste, the management of bulky waste, the decision support systems for waste management and the plastics separation will be tackled down, with the presentation of case-studies.

The event will also see the launch of the project's Interest Group and Purchasing Community. Entry to the event is free of charge but places are limited, and registration is required.

Intelligent procurement of energy-using products

On 29 October ICLEI Europe will hold a webinar in the framework of the Procura+ campaign. The webinar is aimed at procurement practitioners or policy makers who want to ensure that tenders in their organisation result in lower energy use. Procurement of energy efficient products can be easy wins for saving energy and costs, due to increasingly lower energy consumption, longer product lifetimes and greater design flexibility.

Standards and criteria for energy using products are created to ensure that the products are certified as performing to specification, and can be used for defining specifications in tenders. This webinar examines the use of intelligent award criteria to further increase the level of energy efficiency stimulated in ICT and printing products and services.
