This fact sheet highlights the benefits of bio-based products, such as their potential to reduce the economy’s dependence on fossil fuels, create green jobs in the European Union, and drive European innovation. The link between bio-based products and sustainability is also outlined.

This series of case studies describes how organisations from different countries have approached the verification of social criteria at various stages of the tender process. Each study looks into how the compliance of direct suppliers is monitored and how this applies to the rest of the supply chain. It is hoped that procurement professionals and other key stakeholders will be able to use the experiences of their counterparts to develop or improve verification systems in their own authorities.

In each chapter, the LANDMARK report on good practices presents
detailed verification and monitoring systems, after having briefly explained the overall approach of the municipality. Each case study has its conclusions and recommendations, although the objective is that each one draws their own conclusions and know which tools can adapt better to the organization for which you work.

The City of Munich has a long tradition of working on socially responsible procurement. A tender for the City of Munich’s most recent school food catering framework contract, which uses the ‘cook and freeze’approach, was launched at the end of March 2017.

EUPOPP addressed sustainable consumption strategies and individual policy instruments. It looked at the existing knowledge deficit with regards to the impacts and effectiveness of sustainable consumption (SC) strategies and instruments. A focus is on policies in the need areas of housing and food.

SPP Regions focused on building and strengthening regional sustainable procurement networks around Copenhagen (Denmark), Rotterdam - The Hague (Netherlands), Turin (Italy), Bristol (UK), Barcelona (Spain), West France and Gabrovo (Bulgaria).

The study describes the huge environmental and cost relief potential of applying Green Public Procurement in the City of Berlin. The methodology applied uses LCC data for 15 high priority product and service groups and calculates the potential CO2e and cost savings that corresponds to 38 Mio euros and 355.000 tons of CO2 annually.

The project focuses on improving and promoting schemes that protect quality logos (names of quality agricultural products and foodstuffs) and that take into account environmental, social and innovation-based criteria when awarding the public sector contracts to procurers and suppliers.
