This #EUCircularTalk will shed light on the critical role infrastructure plays in achieving a circular, climate-neutral economy while exploring possibilities for collaboration and joint action in Europe. The event will also broaden the discussion to consider the role of circular infrastructure at different levels.

On 11 May from 3 to 4.30 p.m. CEST, Rijkswaterstaat together with Holland Circular Hotspot will be holding interactive workshops in cooperation with a wide range of circular construction leaders and connoisseurs among with Madaster, Restado/Concular and Institut National de l’Economie Circulaire. The workshops will be an opportunity to showcase success stories and identify challenges and opportunities in areas such as public procurement, digital logbooks and circular design for infrastructure works.

This four-hours workshop webinar offers practical insights into how innovation procurement can play a key role in tackling the significant challenges the European public sector is facing  nowadays – especially in the context of economic recovery following the COVID crisis, the Green Deal objectives, cybersecurity and other societal challenges.

The webinar tackles how to use innovation procurement to boost a digital-green economic recovery. The webinar puts the spotlight on success cases that were supported in the past by EAFIP and that will share the approaches they used to maximise impacts, both from the buyer’s and the supplier’s perspective. They will present the benefits and lessons learned of the strategic use of pre-commercial procurement and public procurement of innovative solutions, and you will be able to ask them your questions.

For public buyers that are interested to start new innovation procurements, EAFIP will also explain how to apply for free of charge assistance as well as what types of assistance EAFIP can provide.

This session will be hosted by the Municipality of Milan with the support of Ambiente Italia and ICLEI.

The meeting will provide an overview of the challenges commonly faced by cities looking to procure Nature-Based Solutions (NBS). The City of Milan will share some insights on opportunities for addressing those barriers, building on its recent experience going through a public procurement process supporting the implementation of co-created green roofs and walls solutions in over five public and private buildings in the city.

City representatives and one of the design studios selected through a public call, will be joining to share their experience of working together through the process, including recommendations for using public procurement procedures effectively to deliver co-created NBS solutions.

The ‘European Social Economy Summit’ #EUSES is a jointly organised digital conference by the European Commission and the City of Mannheim. The conference aims to strengthen the #SocialEconomy in Europe and harness its contribution to economic development, social inclusion, and green and digital transitions.

The #EUSES will offer a forum for numerous exchanges on the role of social economy in Europe as a vector for economic development and social inclusion. The summit will be an opportunity to discuss how social economy can help reshape the economy post-COVID by promoting inclusive sustainable economic models for the green and digital transition within Europe.

The session “Tapping the potential of the social economy to make socially responsible public procurement work” will take place on 27 May 2021 from 11.30 am to 1pm. It is organised by AEIDL, Caritas Europa, Diakonie, DIESIS, ENSIE, European Commission DG GROW, REVES and Social Economy Europe. It builds on the work carried out in the projects Buying for Social Impact and #WeBuySocialEU.

Public procurement is an important instrument for public authorities to achieve policy objectives. Drawing on their social aim, the social economy can maximize the impact of public procurement policies and procedures. This workshop will encourage dialogue between contracting authorities and the social economy to share experiences, mainstream support structures and explore innovative approaches to make SRPP work.

The session has three thematic focuses:

• Delivering quality social services through an increased collaboration with the social economy within public procurement rules;
• Promoting the integration of disadvantaged persons through reserved contracts and employment clauses;
• Innovation in public procurement to fully bring out its social potential.

Solar energy is one of the most promising forms of renewable energy sources contributing to CO2 reduction targets. There has been an ever-growing deployment of solar photovoltaic panels. However, as the PV market grows, so will its demand for raw materials, as well as its waste output and related pollution. Lifetime extension of products, components and materials, realised via reuse and repair is one of the cornerstones of a circular economy – a concept with vast potential for pollution mitigation.

How to reduce the environmental impact of solar PV modules and how to develop a circular value chain in the solar PV sector? The solution lies in a better collaboration of all actors in the supply chain.

CIRCUSOL organized a session to openly discuss environmental and economic challenges regarding circularity in the solar PV sector. The speakers will shed light on good practices which can inspire also other sectors.

On June 14th 2021, 4-5 pm CET, a group of countries and regions is launching the Circular and Fair ICT Pact (CFIT). Participants of this new international partnership will use their collective procurement power to accelerate the ICT sector towards becoming more circular and fair. Actions will be taken in good dialogue with the ICT industry and other relevant actors. The pact is an initiative under the UN One Planet Network SPP Programme.
