On 1 and 2 March 2022, the European Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference 2022 will bring together Europe's largest network of stakeholders in the Circular Economy. The focus this year is on the path to a new normal: "Sustainable products for sustainable consumption."

The French EU Council Presidency plays a key role in advancing the Circular Economy. The Presidency is joining the European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission to host this flagship stakeholder conference, bringing together leaders from business, public authorities, NGOs, knowledge communities, and other civil society organisations to advance our transition to a Circular Economy.

Day 1 wiill feature keynote speeches by Frans Timmermans (Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, European Commission), Barbara Pompili (Minister for Ecological Transition, France), Christa Schweng (President of the European Economic and Social Committee, EESC), Didier Reynders (European Commissioner for Justice) and Virginijus Sinkevičius (European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries). In addition, there will be a number of (plenary and breakout) sessions on focusing on various aspects of sustainable production and consumption.

The second day, hosted by the EESC, will focus on the practical implementation of the current and ongoing circular economy policy framework by employers, trade unions and other civil society organisations. Eight participatory workshops on circular topics ranging from circular cities to food waste to circular procurement and network governance will showcase successes and identify new challenges for the circular transition. In addition to the sector-focused workshops, there will be opportunities to discuss, network and explore examples of how the circular transition happens in practice.

FIEC EU will organise on 8 March 2022 the webinar 'Which future for public works?' The event is part of the webinar series 'Making the business case for green construction' and will gather speakers and companies with a focus on sustianablity in civil engineering and the green transition.

During the webinar speakers will discuss among other things how strategic procurement can shape the future of sustainable public works. Furthermore, the webinar will emphasise the importance of public sector engagement with industry associations and market actors. This is crucial to enable a circular, green and digital transition in the construction sector and to ensure that SME's (representing 95% of construction companies and 80% of the sector's turnover in Europe) are not left behind.

As part of the revision process for the 2016 EU Green Public Procurement (GPP) criteria for “office building design, construction and management”, the European Commission wishes to present initial proposals for new GPP criteria for “buildings”, including office buildings, educational buildings and social housing, that will be published on the JRC website in the next few days. The proposals include criteria that are applicable to design, demolition, construction, renovation and management activities for buildings.

The Joint Research Centre of the European Commission will be presenting these initial proposals and registered participants will have the chance to ask questions both during the webinar and in writing after the webinar if they choose to register later on with the JRC’s stakeholder platform (BATIS) for the “buildings” project.

Sustainable Public Procurement (SPP) is an important tool to achieve environmental policy goals relating to climate change, resource use and sustainable consumption and production – especially given the importance of public sector spending on goods and services in Europe.
This is the first of four webinars of 2022, as part of the European Commission’s Helpdesk service on GPP. The webinar will focus on the Most Economically Advantageous Tender (“MEAT”). According to the EU Public Contracts Directive (2014/24/EU), tenders must be awarded on the basis of the most economically advantageous tender. It can be identified on the basis of price or cost only, using a cost-effectiveness approach, such as life-cycle costing, or on the basis of price together with other elements, which can include qualitative, environmental and socially responsible factors (best price-quality ratio), linked to the subject matter of the contract.
The GPP Helpdesk Webinars provide a forum to inform stakeholders working in the field of public sector procurement about important new developments in the resources available and legislative context for Sustainable Public Procurement, and provide an opportunity for questions and discussion.
