SCP for Low Carbon Economy: Green Public Procurement and Eco-Labelling
With unique climatic conditions, long coastlines and high CO2-emissions, Southeast Asia is highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change yet also offers high potential for emission reduction and mitigation against global warming and climate change. Sustainable consumption and production (SCP) patterns are crucial to mitigate those risks.
The EMA will establish a certifiable sustainability standard as well as a recognition system for other sustainability standards, functioning as a quality assurance mechanism. A set of threshold criteria are currently being defined, including ecological, social and climate-relevant requirements as well as credible governance and implementation mechanisms.
The official ecolabel run by the German government, and used as the basis for many of the sustainable procurement activities in Germany.
