Socially-responsible procurement in Nord Rhine Westfalia

The Economic and Social Research Institute (WSI )of the the Hans Böckler Foundation are inviting participants to join the Socially-responsible procurement in Nord Rhine Westfalia conference.

The focus of the conference is on the Minimum Wage Compliance in Procurement in Nord Rhine Westfalia Act (Tariftreue- und Vergabegesetz in NRW), drawn from commitment to the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) core labour standards set measures for ethical public procurement in the state.

This conference will explore the public sector’s ability to use its market power to ensure fair wages are paid, and fair labour conditions are met. Successful socially responsible procurement policies will be highlighted and best practices demonstrated.

A moderated discussion on how socially-responsible procurement can be strengthened and what amendments should be made to the current Minimum Wage Compliance in Procurement in Nord Rhine Westfalia Act will conclude the workshop.

Speakers include procurement law specialist Katharina Strauss, Head of Department at the Ministry of Economics Torsten Burmester, and representative from the Ministry of Economic Affairs Jasmin Deling.

The 2nd European Sustainable Tropical Timber Coalition Conference

The European Sustainable Tropical Timber Coalition (STTC) will host a conference on the power of sustainable timber procurement as the driving force behind the sustainable use of tropical forests.

ISEAL interactive workshop

Who is the workshop for?

This workshop is open to all interested organisations and individuals working with sustainability certifications and labels. It is also an excellent opportunity for staff at certification systems to become familiar with the Codes of Good Practice and develop a base level of knowledge in standard-setting, impacts and certification.

Workshops will also take place in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) on 12 December 2014 and Berlin (Germany) on 19 May 2015.
