The Irish Government has presented the Buying Social Guide and the 71 Good Practice Cases among the relevant materials that can help promote and support Socially Responsible Public Procurement (SRPP). In addition, it has published a number of Irish case studies where social clauses have been used succesfully.
The government states that "SRPP aims to address the impact on society of the goods, services and works purchased by the public sector", adding that public buyers increasingly want to ensure that their purchases achieve social benefits and prevent or mitigate adverse social impacts during the performance of the contract.
Ireland also notes some of the benefits of SRPP, highlighting employment opportunities for disadvantaged people, fair treatment of workers, opportunities for development of the social economy and social enterprise, and improving accessibility, human rights and ethical trade issues.
