Electronics Watch Annual Conference

4 December 2019
Barcelona, Spain

Electronics Watch holds an annual conference in December each year. This is the only conference in Europe that focuses on connecting leading practioners of socially responsible public procurement with labour rights monitoring partners from electronics production regions globally. Public buyers hear directly from these monitors about workers' experiences and conditions in their own supply chains. This immediate connection to the reality on the ground is vital to improving social responsibility in supply chains and to making a difference for workers and their communities.

The Electronics Watch Annual Conference 2019, a sustainable conference, organized in collaboration with Ajuntament de Barcelona, will take place on December 4 at the Centre Cultural Contemporanea de Barcelona (CCCB), a landmark in the historical Raval neighbourhood in the heart of the city. Once an almshouse built in 1802, the CCCB was conceived in 1989 as an arts centre to generate debate, thinking and reflection on themes such as the city and public space,  ecological models and the concept of sustainable development. An exciting location indeed for the Electronics Watch Annual Conference!

A detailed programme and registration will be available on their website in September.

Conference on Fair and Circular ICT

9 December 2019
Ghent, Belgium

The production of ICT devices such as smartphones, computers and laptops has a huge impact on environment, climate change and working conditions in Europe and in the Global South. Electronics have long and complex supply chains, involving multiple risks from raw materials extraction, manufacture, transport, use and e-waste.
Despite the complexity, a conscious procurement and use policy can be an important lever for a fairer ICT chain and a more circular lifecycle of ICT hardware. In this conference we will consider the possibilities for procurers, IT professionals to take tangible steps to develop sustainable ICT procurement and reuse policies in Flanders. European pioneers will present their good examples. This is the moment to get inspired!

The congress is an initiative of the project Fair ICT Flanders. This project aims at improving the sustainability of ICT procurement and reuse policies in Flanders.
