EU GPP Helpdesk launches new website

The EU Green Public Procurement Helpdesk has a new, redesigned website. Dedicated to promoting GPP by offering answers, up-to-date information, and resources to stakeholders, the website is now featured among DG Environment’s Green Business initiatives. The website allows users to submit a query, learn more about voluntary GPP criteria, and find out about recent news, upcoming events and webinars, and good practices.

The main idea behind the GPP Helpdesk, launched in 2010, is to promote and disseminate information about GPP, and to provide timely and accurate answers to stakeholders' enquiries. Part of the GPP Helpdesk service is the publication of monthly newsletters - GPP News-Alerts. Each News-Alert provides short articles, forthcoming GPP events, new website updates, an interview with a key stakeholder, and summaries of GPP examples. Stakeholders can send their questions by email to gpp-helpdesk@iclei.org.

GPP is defined as "a process whereby public authorities seek to procure goods, services and works with a reduced environmental impact throughout their life cycle when compared to goods, services and works with the same primary function that would otherwise be procured." The basic concept of GPP relies on having clear, verifiable, justifiable, and ambitious environmental criteria for products and services, based on a life-cycle approach and scientific evidence base.

The EU GPP Helpdesk is currently operated by ICLEI in cooperation with AEIDL on behalf of the European Commission, Environment DG.
