As part of the EU Green Deal, a number of public consultations are currently under way to revise legislative frameworks which may help shape sustainable procurement actions in the near future. The Sustainable Products Policy legislative initiative (SPI) will make products placed on the EU market more sustainable, and revise the current Ecodesign Directive. Consumers, the environment and the climate will benefit from products that are more durable, reusable, repairable, recyclable, and energy-efficient. The initiative will also address the presence of harmful chemicals in products such as electronics and ICT (information and communications technology) equipment, textiles, furniture, steel, cement, and chemicals. The public consultation period closes 9 June 2021.

The consultation process for the revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD) aims to gather feedback on the improvements needed to the EPBD to boost renovation rates in line with the EU’s climate and energy objectives. The revision of the directive was announced as part of the Renovation Wave Communication adopted on 14 October 2020. Consultation closes 22 June 2021.
